Pressing Matters Magazine — Issue 05

It’s back again with another amazing issue. Pressing Matters magazine have stormed their way through to issue 05, featuring another batch of talented artists, designers and studios wrapped up in a 100 page publication printed by Park Communications on Edixion Offset paper.

What Pressing Matters and also ourselves love about is printmaking is it’s unpredictability. Overlapping a colour, using a word as a theme or an accidental off-registration can actually turn into something great. Creating the unexpected using a simple idea. This notion is echoed throughout issue five, be it an Argentinian artist bringing together a series of small printed pieces to create a breathtaking letterpress sculpture, or printmakers using overheard phrases as a jumping off point to create imagined worlds and bold poster prints.

Found within it’s pages you can discover gorgeous snap shots of studios, work in progress, and final proud presentations of work featuring an array of illustration, graphic design, typography through a equally large variety of print processes from letterpress, etching, lino cutting and more.

Their passion for printmaking and showcasing unsung heroes of this wonderful medium is inspiring. We heard from Pressing Matters Director John Coe:

“Seeing how an artist makes their marks, chooses colours, looks for balance (and sometimes discord) to create a print never fails to interest me. In some cases, working together on a shared creative idea, other times head down (locked in their shed with the radio on), making time to make their work and see it come to life”.
