Robert Jessup: Squares
Greater Denton Arts Council
Opening Reception | Friday, February 2, 6 - 8 PM
February 3 - May 19, 2018

Known for his narrative paintings,
Robert Jessup (CVAD Professor of Art) has eschewed a representational style in his recent work in order to create ambitious paintings and drawings that aim to reconfigure his world of imagery. Barely decipherable figures navigate a wild and colorful pictorial space that churns with a furious plasticity. the very visceral paint application can range from the most delicate whisperings of a fine brush's touch, to the brutal scrapings and trowelings of the widest knife. Jessup states: "the configurations arise from the battle between the charged forces of the rectangle, the impetuosity of my flailing physical self, and the persistence of my desire to configure in spite of my many doubts and dissatisfactions."
