Read & Leave is an uncensored multi-media campaign by graduates Adam Birkett and Jack Nicholson. The project itself aims at challenging public stigmas against the homeless community. With the perceptions of the homeless society becoming a little disjointed and distorted, their campaign aims to highlight these stigmas. Via the use of distorted visuals both Adam and Jack were able to begin to shift the readers perceptions upon homelessness. The project aims to epitomise everything that is potentially wrong with society. By creating a campaign that asks for nothing from the reader it makes them question their lack of contribution to the issue and most probably the wider world.
The project was started because they wanted to instigate change within the community. Their interest within the homeless society came to light when observing how the community was treated in Bethnal green; Adam and Jacks local area. What really hit home was how as individuals they also held the stigmas, maybe unintentionally. Due to this they started to chat to the homeless volunteers at the shelters, they were able to gain a plethora of different stories from different backgrounds really highlighting that this is a situation that could happen to anyone. This was their main focus when creating this campaign, really hitting home, how close it could potentially be. (Thanks guys)
By creating such a strong visual identity with disjointed typography and mildly chaotic layouts their project really hits home how disturbing this whole situation can be. Adam and Jack would like to thank everyone involved in the project including the homeless community of Bethnal Green and surrounding areas.
