ottoGraphic’s handy screen-printing manuals

Otto is a Graphic Artist who practices as an Illustrator, Screen Printer and Book Artist. He has worked as an Editorial Illustrator since graduating from Bristol in 1991. Otto also went on to study a Masters in Illustration at Kingston University. He was one of a handful of illustrators who were at that time, pioneering a conceptual graphic style based on screen prints and collage, often accompanying texts on the internet’s revolution.

Since 2010 Otto has been running a printmaking workshop near Bath (UK) which also offers open access to other artists. I stumbled across Otto’s Screen Printing Manuals whilst at the Cultural Traffic book fair in Shoreditch. The 15 x 22cm handmade publications explain the principles of screen printing. All chapters are illustrated with stylised scenes at his workshop.

Currently there are 4 different screen printing manuals in the series, exploring how to screen print, how to create images, how to edit digitally and so on.

The manuals are made by screen printing a text block on a single sheet, the sheet is then sliced and folded into individual pages. With a little centre page spread folding out to double size, what a treat!

The books and a list of where they are being sold can be found here
