A much anticipated celebration of printmaking, independent publishing and the advancing of digital publishing and printing techniques is hosted on a monthly basis under the title of Raw Print. Raw Print is both a welcome and exciting addition to the buzz around the up and coming creative scene of Nottingham, hosting inspiring talks from representatives of renowned publications, from Mushpit to The Outpost, Weapons of Reason and many more. This past week saw the last of the Raw Print events for 2016, finishing with a first-hand print experience, introducing screen print and letterpress workshops. Special guests Dizzy Ink, School of Print and Pop Press informed the audience on the exciting events they have in store for the new year.
Beginning the evening was a talk from Benjamin Kay, half of Dizzy Ink, who introduced the School of Print. The School of Print was created in collaboration with Cobden Place, a collective of creatives situated within Cobden Chambers, a hidden gem off the streets of Nottingham’s Hockley, boasting design agencies, an arts cafĂ© that holds discussions and film screenings, Ideas on Paper, a stunning independent publication store to suit all of your creative desires and more. The School of Print has been created to ensure open access for anyone to use, offering a range of screen print equipment, training and workshops, regardless of whether you’re a creative or just fancy trying something new, in hopes that it will help others to start their own businesses.

Pop Press was established by a husband and wife collaboration between Steve Dunn and Ming Chung, a combining of talents in graphic design and illustration who retrained together in Electronic Publishing and are now creating striking and unconventional designs using tactile processes such as letterpress and screen printing to transform their drawings into crisp letterpress goods, prints and stationary. The ideology behind many of their designs is to make people think, embedding quirky twists and copy, in turn offering their unique and charming aesthetic to the public, perfect gifts in time for Christmas.
