Woodberry Wetlands | It Starts with a Seed

Jennie Webber is holding her original hand-painted etchings that illustrated her first published book ‘It Starts with a Seed’ this week which follows the journey of a sycamore seed through the years and seasons, as it grows into a giant old tree supporting a myriad of animal and plant lifeThe work will be on show at The Coalhouse, part of London’s newest nature reserve set around a wild reservoir in N16, a perfect location for the exhibition! Jennie Webber is a visual artist, printmaker and animal lover. Her practice is based upon the fact that truth is stranger than fiction, and nowhere is this more apparent than in the natural world. Working primarily with intricate etchings and playful illustrations Jennie’s artwork celebrates the diversity and complexity of nature, reflecting her lifelong curiosity for flora and fauna. The hidden elements and fine detail in her work is intended to encourage observation and appreciation for the natural world, hoping to evoke the wide-eyed wonderment associated with childhood. Themes of conservation underpin all her work; the idea being that if people are amazed by the natural world, then they will be more inclined to save it.  It Starts with a Seed is a factual enchanting story conveying the message of life and growth. Beautifully presented, It Starts with a Seed has gold blocking on the front cover, gatefolds, textured paper and a specialised etching technique, handmade by Webber throughout.
