Lucile Piketty

Having studied in both Paris and New York, Lucile Piketty now works as an illustrator and printmaker in France. Piketty has a particular focus on depicting cities and life within them. In May of this year, Piketty was awarded the Lacourière prize for etching by the Bibliothèque Nationale de France for her series ‘Si je disparaissais,’ (If I disappeared).

A series of illustrations of New York City sit beautifully on top of lined paper that complements and enhances the many lines of the skyscrapers that dominate the landscape. A further series of linocuts depicting Manhattan and its architecture reflects the drama of the city.

Many of Piketty’s images feature a dramatic contrast between light and shadow. This visual contrast perfectly complements the subject matter of a recent screen print and etching series focussing on outer space and its exploration.

In contrast to her otherworldly space scenes, Piketty’s depiction of everyday life featuring fast food, car parks and the Parisian metro highlight the beauty in things often overlooked and dismissed as trivial as we go about our daily routines.

The online and printed magazine L’Instant Parisien recently featured some of Piketty’s linocuts and illustrations depicting Parisian life. The bold images are snapshots that perfectly capture the atmosphere of Paris. You can find Piketty’s beautiful collection of diverse images on her Instagram and Tumblr.
