Silk Screen Printing
It would surprise many people to know how easy it is to have custom silk screen printing done for special occasions. If you’ve been outside of your house at least a couple times in your lifetime, then you’ve probably seen a garment that has been customized with silk screen printing. This method of garment decoration is so popular and widely used, that you practically can’t go down the street without seeing a printed piece of clothing. So if it’s so easy to get into, how does one get started?
Silk Screen Printing
Well, the first step to custom silk screen printing is deciding what you need custom items for! Do you have a big party coming up that you want to have commemorative shirts printed for? Or perhaps you are in team athletics and you’d like to get matching garments for the players? Better yet, maybe you’re a budding designer and you would like to retail your designs on garments? All of these needs are easily met by silk screen printing. Now, you might be asking, “How does it work?”
Silk screen printing, in a nutshell, is a lot like using a stencil, just way more involved! The artwork gets digitally separated into layers of color, where each part of the design in the same color gets its own layer. Then each layer gets separately etched into a silk screen mesh covered with an emulsion which is the ‘stencil’. Each screen gets mounted onto a press and then, in sequence, they are placed over the garment while a squeegee pulls colored ink across the surface. After all of the screens administer the ink, the image is complete and is ready to be dried. Of course, you’ll need to consult a screen printing company if you aren’t set up to do all of this!
