Lost Words Workshop by The Counter Press at Type Archive

For years the Type Archive has been something of a mystery. A near mythical place that many people have heard about but seldom few have ever seen. A repository for the equipment and precious materials from Britain’s great type foundries, the Type Archive holds one of the most important collections of typographic history in the country. Now this hidden world is starting to open its doors again…

‘Lost words’ is intensive, hands-on two-day introduction to letterpress, exploring long forgotten language in the lost world of the Type Archive.

It’s a chance to learn the basics of letterpress and the traditional techniques of typesetting with both wood and metal type. Each student will design, set and then print their own limited edition poster on a precision proofing press using the archive’s collection of type.
