Things You Should NOT DO To Design A Winning T-Shirt

Like everything else, designing a t-shirt is easier for some, but difficult for others. Whether you are designing a tee for yourself or a group, you do not want to go wrong.

A simple mistake can ruin the results. We have compiled a list of things you should not do while creating a customized shirt, so you can avoid the havoc.

Use the wrong template

Most t-shirt designing sites, like us, offer a design template. You can use that specific template for your personalized shirts. Do not use another template as it may not be suitable with their printing techniques. We have a number of templates for various styles of shirts that are specific for men, women and children.

Too much color

A combination of color is always a good thing. But that does not mean you overdo it. Too many colors will look like you haven’t spent time thinking through your design. Instead, use different shades of one or two colors. This will add an artistic touch to your shirt.

You can always depend on the trusted shades such as white, gray, blue and black. There is hardly a chance of going wrong while combining these colors.

Copyrighted images

Have you picked an artwork, an image, or a photograph to use on your tee? Make sure you choose images that are royalty-free. You may use them if they are available on a public domain for free use.

It is better to avoid anything which may later raise a copyright issue. This should especially be considered if you are designing for sale or representing a group or a business.

Writing a novel instead of a tagline

So you started out with a dialogue from your favorite novel or TV show, and watched it go on and on? No one is going to take the time out to read it. Ultimately, it loses its meaning. This will turn into just another meaningless design.

Don’t want to be that person who cannot design a simple shirt? Go for a few words only. Remember, when it comes to t-shirt designing, less is always more.

Blurry images or text

So you picked an image from a public domain and it’s not large enough? Or did you design a word art which now seems too small. Enlarging the image only ends up pixelating it. You will end up with a blurry image which just would not make sense to anyone. Even if it does, it will just look tacky.

Simply put, avoid exaggerations, overflow of colors and anything that you are unsure of. Happy t-shirt designing!
