Things You Should DO To Design A Winning T-Shirt

Ever seen someone wearing a really cool t-shirt that they designed themselves? Well, that was probably one of the many attempts they made at designing it. But why do people often end up with a tee that either doesn’t work out the way they wanted, or just doesn’t suit them?

The answer is simple. While designing a tee, you work with an online system. You should realize that what works on the screen does not always work on the shirt material. But does that mean you are doomed to fail? Of course not! We have a few tips that can help you create a shirt without the risk of it going wrong.

Explore what you want to do

Is there a particular image or a tagline that you want to include in the design? Well, go on and sketch it. Then add a few variations and tweak the details a bit. You would know when you arrive at a perfect design.

Now think about how it will look on a t-shirt. Try printing it out on a paper to see if it still looks good. Keep in mind that there will be certain degree of difference in color and size. A slight change should not be off-putting.

Keep the details minimal

Attention to details is necessary especially to eliminate the unnecessary ones. Think about it; you have a design with intricate details. What exactly should a viewer focus on? Add details, but don’t overdo it. The balance is a little difficult to achieve, but isn’t impossible.

Use subtle humor

Several people think they cannot go wrong with humor. And those ‘several people’ are wrong when it comes to personalized t-shirts.

Add a joke or pun, but do it subtly. An all out humor isn’t going to win you any points here. In fact, crude jokes are only going to make you look bad.

Tip: You do not want to end up at your grandma’s place with any of today’s crude but oh-so-cool words flashing across your tee.

Thumb rule: Color > Design

A poor choice of color can ruin a good design. A simple solution is to try different colors or combinations for both, the design and background of your shirt. Be ruthless with your choice of colors; change them as many times as you have to until you reach that perfect look.

Print it right

If you have carefully put together a print that you are sure will work, there is still one thing that could go wrong. You might end up going for the wrong printer or shirt material. To avoid this, it is a good idea to use the services of professional custom t-shirt providers.
